Competition Terms and Conditions

Big Battery Hunt Competition and Prize Draw Terms and Conditions

1. The competition is open to all schools in mainland England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland, that have registered for the ‘Big Battery Hunt’ programme.

2. No purchase necessary.

3. Entries from non-mainland UK, including but not limited to Jersey, Orkneys and Shetlands are not eligible for this competition. Please see the Pioneer of the Month Competition details for entry to an alternative competition.

4. An entry is defined as at least one submission of the total collected batteries per school, divided by the number of students participating at the school. Schools must submit their total battery collection count with more than one student participating and provide the total number of students contributing to the overall schools total battery collection.

5. One school will be declared the winner based on the highest average battery collection count per student. The runner-up will be declared as the school that collects the next highest average battery count per student. Additionally, an individual student will be selected as a winner of a separate prize, by the teacher of the winning school, based on their stand-out recycling efforts. A student from the runner-up school will also be selected as the winner of a separate prize based on their stand-out recycling efforts.

6. 20 further schools will be randomly selected from all schools to have submitted a battery count in the 2023/2024 academic year to win a separate prize.

7. To be eligible for these prizes, the school must be registered for the ‘The Big Battery Hunt’ programme.

8. The deadline to submit the number of batteries recycled is Friday 28th June 2024.

9. The Promoter reserves the right to revise this date and extend the period for accepting entries for the prize in the event of circumstances arising beyond its reasonable control.

10. For an entry to be eligible it must meet the prize entry requirements.

11. Proof of the battery count and participating pupil numbers must be provided on request, and be seen as a true representation of the battery count entry to be eligible for a prize.

12. Only the winner and runners-up will be notified by email and telephone by 18:00 on Friday 12th July 2024. Winners must accept their prize within 7 days of being notified.

13. The first prize includes:

  • £3,500 towards school garden and outdoor equipment for the school1 x Nintendo Switch for the winning student, this is a student the winning teacher feels deserves it the most.
  • 1x Certificate for each participating student in the class
  • 1 x Trophy

14. The runner-up prize includes:

  • £500 towards school garden and outdoor equipment for the school
  • 1 x Nintendo Switch for the winning student, this is a student the winning teacher feels deserves it the most.
  • 1x Certificate for each participating student in the class
  • 1 x Trophy

15. The prize for 20 randomly selected schools includes:

  • £10 High Street Voucher to be spent on items for the school.

16. The winning schools will be contacted to arrange the prize by Friday 12th July 2024.

17. No alternative prize is available, and the prize is non-transferable and non-negotiable.

18. All prizes will be awarded on condition that winning schools agree to take part in Duracell, and We Are Futures publicity requests as appropriate. If this condition is not met by the winning school and student(s), the prize will be awarded to another entrant who does agree to this condition. Personal details of the winning student/school details will not be passed to anyone other than the Promoter.

19. The Promoter reserves the right in his/her reasonable discretion: a. to disqualify any competitor whose conduct is contrary to the spirit of the rules (eg a misrepresentation of battery or pupil numbers) or the intention of the promotion and to declare as void any or all their claims or entries based on such conduct. b. to declare as void any claims or entries resulting from any printing, production, and/or distribution errors (including but not limited to any error(s) on this website, and/or other printed materials) or where there has been error(s) in any aspect of the preparation for or conduct of the promotion materially affecting the result of the promotion or the number of claimants or the value of claims. c. to add to or to waive any rules and prizes on reasonable notice. d. and/or to cancel the promotion or any part of it at any stage in the event of circumstances beyond reasonable control.

20. Incorrect, incomplete, or illegal entries will not be accepted. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for lost, undelivered, delayed, damaged, or mislaid entries.

21. The Promoter reserves the right to verify the eligibility of all entrants and disqualify any entry that is not in accordance with the rules.

23. By entering the competition, the entrants agree to be bound by the rules and other requirements set out in this competition.

Battery Recycling Pioneer of the Month Competition Terms and Conditions

1. The competition is open to all children in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland who attend a school that has registered for the ‘Big Battery Hunt’ programme, except for relatives of We Are Futures, Duracell, and WasteCare.

2. No purchase necessary.

3. An entry is defined as at least one story in the form of a video, photo taken at their local recycling point, or copy being submitted to the Big Battery Hunt Website stories page.

4. One winner every month will be selected for the duration of the campaign period. (5 months)

5. To be eligible for this competition, the student must attend a school that has registered for the ‘The Big Battery Hunt’ programme and have the full permission of a teacher, parent, or guardian.

6. The School must submit their story by the last day of each month to be considered for that month’s prize.

7. The competition deadlines for each month are:

Tuesday 30th January 2024
Thursday 29th February 2024
Thursday 28th March 2024
Friday 26th April 2024
Friday May 24th 2024

The entry may be used for, amongst other things, post-event publicity (including reproduction of quotes) or for internal purposes including newsletters and presentations by the Promoter and Duracell.

12. Each month’s winning student will receive an iPad.

13. The winning student’s school will be contacted to arrange the prize by the Friday following each month’s deadline detailed in section 7 of these terms and conditions.

14. The individual prize for the winning student will be dispatched to the winning school within 4 weeks of the prize being accepted.
