Milo’s Mission to make a difference!

After listening to our passionate eco-prefects explain the harmful impacts that incorrectly disposed batteries can have on the environment, and the scale of the current global problem - with less than one third of the 600 million household batteries being thrown away in the UK each year being recycled properly - our school community here at Lumen Christi College were eager to take action by taking part in the Big Duracell Battery Challenge.
Although our entire school community got involved in this excellent initiative with great spirit, this year our Battery Recycling Champion was our fantastic Year 9 pupil, Milo.
From the outset, Milo threw himself into the challenge with incredible energy and enthusiasm, collecting an amazing 181 batteries! When we asked Milo why he decided to get involved in this challenge, his reply was simple, “I (he) just wanted to help the planet and help show others the big impact our collective small actions can make”.
Milo’s excitement quickly spread throughout the college inspiring pupils and staff of all ages to check old drawers at home, ask family members, and bring in every used battery they could find - collecting an amazing 1,267 batteries in total!
This challenge has shown how one person’s passion can spark an entire community into action. For us, that spark was Milo, and his mission really did make a difference.
We hope sharing Milo’s story will encourage even more young recyclers to take action and help protect our planet, one battery at a time.
Thanks to Milo, Lumen Christi is fully powered for positive change!
